Virtual Axle Detector: Train Axle Localization based on Bridge Vibrations

چکیده

Abstract Infrastructure worldwide is facing the challenge of aging bridges and increasing traffic loads. Prolonged serviceability safety these structures can be enabled by Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methods. Knowledge actual operating loads critical for evaluation remaining service life. However, direct measurement challenging requires a significant financial investment. Bridge Weigh‐In‐Motion (BWIM) methods use structural response bridge to determine loads, but generally rely on accurate knowledge position as function time. Positions determined using conventional axle detectors, their lifetime limited, installation expensive. To avoid problems, we propose an improved Virtual Axle Detector (VAD) with Enhanced Receptive field (VADER) that detect axles all types accelerometers placed anywhere along bridge. The same data set 3787 train passages recorded steel trough railway under real conditions was used. Our results show that, in comparison VAD, VADER reduces number undetected over 79% detects 99.5% average spatial accuracy 4.6 cm.

Vision-Based Vehicle Wheel Detector And Axle Counter

This paper introduces a method for counting vehicle axles in the video sequence appropriate for use in vision-based automatic vehicle classifiers with narrow field of vision. The procedure is simple, robust to wheel detector errors, and computationally efficient due to the use of the fast Hough transform. It provides a self-test for applicability for detection of cases where it is not applicabl...

Real-time on-board condition monitoring of train axle bearings

Premature failure of rail axle bearings causes a significant increase in train operating costs and can impact train safety. A new on-board condition monitoring approach provided by Perpetuum Ltd is fitted on passenger trains to provide the operator with real-time information on bearing health. This new technology allows the detection of early bearing damage. This paper reports an initial study ...

Future Challenges to Axle Counting Systems

Future-proof and highly available axle counting systems will be based on inductive wheel sensor systems with analogue output signals. Decades of experience for Frauscher Sensortechnik GmbH and over sixty thousand installations worldwide show that in the long term only this technology will be able to meet the challenges arising from the application environment. Increasing functional demands can ...

On the dynamics of European two–axle railway freight wagons

The design of European two–axle freight wagons can be traced back to the 1890’es. It has been and still is widely used in Europe because it is simple, rugged and cheap in price and maintenance. The internationally approved suspension for two–axle freight wagons in Europe is known as the UIC standard suspension (see Fig. 1). Each wagon has four of these suspensions. They consist of a leaf spring...

Analysis of axle and vehicle load properties through Bayesian Networks based on Weigh-in-Motion data

Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems are used, among other applications, in pavement and bridge reliability. The system measures quantities such as individual axle load, vehicular loads, vehicle speed, vehicle length and number of axles. Because of the nature of traffic configuration, the quantities measured are evidently regarded as random variables. The dependence structure of the data of such compl...
